Patchwork pieces take over fall fashion

Patchwork might be my favorite trend for fall 2020 because the options are honestly endless. This trend screams cottagecore meets 90s fashion. The best thing about this trend — if you don’t have the budget to buy new clothing — you can do it yourself! All you really need is your base piece of clothing you want to revamp and some scrap pieces of fabric.

JEANS

“You paid for your jeans to look like that?” Of course, it’s called fashion.

You’ve heard all of the dad jokes about your ripped jeans, now get ready to hear them about your patchwork jeans. This might be my favorite article of clothing within the patchwork trend because there are so many variations and no matter what they always look SO good. They could be patches of different washes of jeans or be a regular pair of jeans with added patches of patterned fabric. The opportunities are endless!

JACKETS

This trend gives you the perfect excuse to add a sixth jean jacket to your collection. If you’re like me and live in a place where fall only lasts a few weeks, you’ll know the struggle of not wanting to buy too many light jackets. But I promise you, you’re going to want to hop on the patchwork jacket trend ASAP. I swear, you’ll want to wear your new jacket constantly.

TOPS

You have two-toned and color-blocked tops, now make room in your closet for patchwork. These tops are on a whole other level. From flannels, to sweaters, to blouses, to tank tops, the variation between the patchwork of these tops are incredible. Patchwork tops add so much texture and color to your outfit that you can pair them with jeans and white shoes and be comfy and cute all day.

DRESSES

Patchwork dresses always look amazing. If you love cottagecore, opt for a flowy dress with some floral patches. Anything featuring romantic fabrics will fit in perfectly with your aesthetic. If cottagecore isn’t your thing, try looking for a plaid patchwork or knit dress. Since these fabrics are already a staple in many of our closets for fall, the patchwork design simply elevates the piece.

SKIRTS

Maybe it’s just me, but I feel like skirts never truly go out of season. Get yourself a patchwork skirt and matching jacket or top and you’ll be set (pun intended). Patchwork skirts are a perfect addition to your wardrobe because it adds a little flare to any casual t-shirt. If you have a bunch of denim skirts piling up in your closet, take one out and add your own patches to it! You’ll keep up with the trend without hurting your bank account!
